WHAT IS IT?
THE INSPECTION THAT
PAYS YOU BACK.
A Wind Mitigation Inspection documents the features of your home that protect it from hurricane and wind damage — things like how your roof is attached, what your roof covering is made of, and whether your windows and doors have impact protection.
Florida law requires insurance companies to offer premium discounts for these features. If your home already has them — and most do — you may be leaving real money on the table every year without this report.
The inspection itself is straightforward, non-invasive, and typically takes 1–2 hours. The report is submitted directly to your insurer or agent, who then applies any qualifying discounts to your policy.

WHAT WE DOCUMENT
SIX FEATURES.
EVERY ONE DOCUMENTED
WITH PHOTOS.
These are the six items on the Florida OIR-B1-1802 Wind Mitigation form — the standard form accepted by all Florida insurers. We document each one thoroughly so your insurer has everything they need to apply your discounts.
01
Roof Covering
Material type (shingles, tile, metal) and installation method. Newer approved materials earn greater discounts than older or unapproved coverings.
02
Roof Deck Attachment
How the plywood or OSB roof deck is nailed or fastened to the roof framing. Longer nails at closer spacing indicate stronger attachment and earn larger discounts.
03
Roof Shape
Hip roofs (slopes on all four sides) are significantly more wind-resistant than gable roofs and typically earn the largest single discount on a Wind Mitigation report.
04
Secondary Water Resistance
An additional layer under the roof covering (like a self-adhering underlayment) that prevents water intrusion if the primary covering is damaged in a storm.
05
Roof-to-Wall Connection
How the roof structure connects to the walls — toenails, clips, single wraps, double wraps, or structural anchors. Stronger connections mean greater wind resistance and bigger discounts.
06
Opening Protection
Whether windows, doors, and garage doors have impact-rated protection (impact glass, shutters, panels). This is one of the most valuable features for both safety and insurance discounts.

Who should get this inspection?
YOU LIKELY QUALIFY IF ANY OF THESE APPLY
Your home has a hip roof
four-sided slopes are the single biggest wind mitigation discount trigger in Florida.
You have impact windows, doors, or shutters
these earn significant opening protection credits.
Your home was built after 2002
Florida building codes changed significantly after Hurricane Andrew, so newer homes often qualify for more credits.
You've never had a wind mitigation inspection
if you've owned your home for years without one, you may have been overpaying on insurance the entire time.
You recently re-roofed
a new roof with stronger attachment methods and approved materials can unlock new or larger discounts.
